A succesfull flower & plant buyer needs to know what products are available, from whom, from which country, what quality and…what price.
What are today’s prices of Rosa hybrida L. ‘First Red’ in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Ecuador, India, Australia and China?
The Portal
www.eflowertrading.com offers just that information.
Growers and traders list their available products of today but also futures on the portal for all buyers to see.
This allows buyers to see all product availability on one screen right on their desktop and contact the supplier directly for an order.
The Flower Portal is an initiative of Global eTrading NV, “GET NV” based on Curacao (part of the Netherlands Kingdom).
Management of GET NV has been involved in the electronic trade and auction industry for 12 years.
Hans Robben, co-founder and CEO explains as follows.
“We have been involved in electronic buying and auctions with some of the largest retailers in the world. Every time when we came in contact with the flower and plant industry we noted that it was very difficult to find new suppliers, let alone find out who was producing what, and what was available in the market today or next month”.
Many growers do not have websites, and if they do the sites are difficult to access and many times not up to date. A very frustrating business for buyers.
Compare this to the financial world. A broker at the bank (buyer) sits behind one screen Reuters or Bloomberg and can see live what the stocks are doing in New York, Amsterdam and Tokyo. With one mouse click he can buy at market price, or he can make a (lower) offer.
This is what we have built for the international flower and plant industry! One screen that shows all available flowers and plants directly from the suppliers.
How does it work?
Growers and traders can list their products, for today’s supply or for next month or even for mothers day in 3 months.
Growers and traders can thus offer their products every day right on the desktop of the buyer.
This allows the buyer to compare, and or make relations with suppliers.
The buyer can sort all products, look at product sheets and has 3 options:
Buy electronically at market price, make an offer or simply call the supplier and work out the details with him directly.
This is possible because the Portal does not act as a middleman. The Portal does not charge commissions nor trading fees. The buyer can have direct contact with any supplier.
The Portal also has a trading platform for supply companies offering anything from fertiliser, buckets to complete irrigation systems.
Logistics and payments can be handled between buyer and seller or can be handled by one of many logistic service companies listed on the Portal.
The advantage is that flower can fly directly to the buyer rather than fly to an auction, then on another plane and/or truck losing valuable time.
Hans Robben: “We are in the business of saving money. In the Horti business $0,01 can mean the difference between win or lose money so we know that charging a commission on other peoples business can not be a solution”!
The portal is free for buyers, and sellers just pay a US$ 900.- yearly membership fee for unlimited trading.
For a seller to place his products directly on the desktop of the buyer this is a fraction of the cost of advertising, trade shows or flying products to physical auctions.
